The Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (ITHA), Arlington Park and Hawthorne Race Course have agreed to cooperate in a program to provide for the care of retired Thoroughbred race horses. The program, is a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit Illinois corporation, which began in April 2010 with ITHA Board Member Nate Ruffolo as the founding President.
The program is funded by the ITHA, as well as both of Chicagoland’s Thoroughbred race courses and charitable contributions which are tax deductible. For 2012 Hawthorne has agreed to contribute $37,500 to Galloping Out which the ITHA will match. Arlington has committed to the equivalent or more to Galloping Out through donations/fundraising in 2012 which is also matched by ITHA. As such, it is truly a cooperative effort.
Galloping Out’s Board of Directors determines the processes under which the program will operate pursuant to its bylaws, including the determination of eligible horses, selection of retirement facilities and the amount of funding to be provided to each facility .
