ITHA PUSHES FOR 20% BREEDER AWARDS
ITHA's Board of Directors has proposed language for an
amendment to the current gaming bill, SB1739, that would
raise current Breeder Awards for Illinois bred or foaled horses
in open company races from the current 11 1/2% to 20% of
the first prize money of every purse won. Additionally the
percentage going to the breeder organization would increase
from 1% to 1 1/2%.
The total increase would be from the current 12 1/2% to 21 1/2%
with 70% of those amounts coming from the horsemen's purse account.
The tracks currently pay all of the 12 1/2%.
Horsemen of the ITHA support this boost to the Breeder Awards
which, based upon figures from 2011 and 2012, would provide
Breeder Awards in a gross amount equal to or greater than Owner
Awards now paid.
