In addition to our weekly summer programming for children through adults and our Day Camp, we sponsored an Ice Cream Social, several “Field Days”, a block party where we fed over 400 with a band and awards for those who participated over the course of the summer. 220 backpacks filled with school supplies were also given out. Middle and High School students were able to qualify for reward trips. 16 boys spent a week with RTCA leaders at the camp Michigan thanks to our partner church, and 5 girls enjoyed a shopping spree, lunch, a movie, and getting their nails done.
Currently at Hawthorne we have a weekly children’s program at one of our partner churches, as well as periodic special activities. Over 200 attended a special Christmas dinner and play for those families whose children attend the program.
We were also able to distribute 380 turkeys to those in the racing community for Thanksgiving, thanks to an anonymous donor to our one of our partner churches. Chaplain Ernesto continues his ministry to the jockeys and those in the backstretch. They know they can count on him whenever he is needed.
