Important Information for Trainers from IRB Veterinarians

Important information for working off the vet's list

  1. The horse needs to be examined by their veterinarian prior to the work and turn in paperwork that the horse is fit to work for the regulatory veterinarian

  2. The appointment needs to be made a minimum of 48 hours prior to working so that we can get HIWU approval to collect blood or urine samples.

  3. The horse should be in the current trainer’s name in HISA

  4. On the day of the work, there will be a pre-work exam by the regulatory veterinarian

  5. The responsible person should make sure the regulatory veterinarian knows which horse on the track is theirs

  6. There will be a post-work exam by the veterinarian

  7. Blood will be drawn even if the horse fails the work (Per HIWU)

  8. Each horse gets 1 free sample from HIWU every 365 days when they work for a regulatory veterinarian

  9. The horse will need to go 4F in 52.0 or 5F in 1:02.0 unless a regulatory vet in another jurisdiction has a different requirement
